The History of Elisebrygga – Our Seaside Villa

Elisebrygga was originally built in 1865, serving as a traditional coastal boathouse. A few years later, it was destroyed by a powerful winter storm. To rebuild it, the owner spent two seasons fishing in Lofoten, earning enough money to restore the structure.

For decades, the boathouse was used to store fishing gear, nets, and equipment, playing an important role in the local maritime livelihood.

Around 1910, it was purchased by the great-grandfather of the current owners. In 1970, the building was sold to Mack Brewery, before the present family bought it back in 2014.

Since then, Elisebrygga has undergone a complete transformation. The structure was moved five meters closer to the sea, raised by approximately one meter, and fully renovated from the ground up. Today, the historic boathouse has been reimagined as the Seaside Villa, blending its rich heritage with modern comfort and luxury.

Winter Has Arrived – and So Has Aurora Season

Winter has officially arrived here in Northern Norway, and meteorologists are predicting an exceptionally beautiful aurora season this year. Both of our properties — Cabin in Mestervik and Seaside Villa — offer stunning, unobstructed views right outside the door, allowing guests to experience the Northern Lights and the dramatic Arctic landscape without needing to travel anywhere.

The unique location of our rentals makes them perfect for quiet evenings under the night sky, with nothing but nature, mountains, and the dancing aurora surrounding you.

We also collaborate with local activity providers who offer a range of winter experiences, including snowshoe tours, cultural activities, traditional northern Norwegian food experiences, storytelling, and historical excursions.

The History of “Banken” – Cabin in Mestervik

Here’s a little fun fact about our cabin, lovingly known as “The Bank.”
The building has had a long and fascinating journey through local history.

From 1900 to 1916, it served as the village schoolhouse, before becoming the local savings bank from 1917 to 1967. In 1975, it was converted into a family cabin, preserving much of its original character.

The current owner’s great-grandfather was the one who originally built it, making the cabin an important part of the family’s heritage.

Today, guests sleep in what used to be the vault, while the kitchen once served as the bank manager’s office — a charming reminder of the building’s unique past.

Despite its long history, the cabin has been renovated to modern standards, while carefully preserving the warm and cozy atmosphere that makes it such a special place to stay.

Living by the Fjord – A Place to Slow Down

Life by the fjord follows a different rhythm.

Here in Malangen, days are shaped by the light, the weather, and the quiet presence of nature. Some days are filled with soft snowfall and deep winter silence, while others bring clear skies, northern lights, or long summer evenings where the sun never sets.

Staying at Arctic Seaside Villa or Mestervik Fjord Cabin is not about rushing from activity to activity. It’s about slowing down. Waking up to the sound of the sea. Watching the light change over the mountains. Enjoying a quiet morning coffee while the fjord lies still outside your window.

Many of our guests tell us the same thing after their stay — that time feels different here. Days feel longer, calmer, and more meaningful. Whether you come to explore the Arctic landscape or simply to rest, this is a place where nature gently sets the pace.
